Juvederm Injections for Fat Pad Atrophy, Corns, and Calluses
JUVÉDERM® is an injectable dermal (skin) filler comprised mainly of Hyaluronic Acid (HA)-a fluid that is naturally present in the human body. HA acts as a lubricant and cushion in the eyes, joints, skin, and other tissues. JUVÉDERM® treatments harness the hydrating and volumizing properties of HA to treat certain foot conditions such as fat pat atrophy, corns and calluses.
In fat pad atrophy, the body’s natural fat pads under the heel and ball of the foot have shifted or become worn down. This causes pain when standing or walking as well as inflammation. Left untreated, there may even be bone damage. The JUVÉDERM® gel filler can be added to these thinned out fat pads to restore shock absorption and cushioning to eliminate pain.
Corns and calluses are thickened, hardened dead areas of skin that has formed in response to friction or pressure. They are meant to protect the healthy tissue that is living underneath, however they can get quite painful, tender to the touch, and even inflamed. The JUVÉDERM® gel filler can be inserted underneath painful corns and calluses to shrink and even them out while alleviating stress placed on underlying tissue.
JUVÉDERM® is naturally based and biodegradable. Since it has not been extracted from animals, there is no concern for an allergic reaction and it is compatible with all skin types. What’s more, the HA in JUVÉDERM® is modified to make its healing properties last longer.
Treatments take generally less than a half hour. The site is first numbed, followed by the healing JUVÉDERM® gel filler being inserted into the painful area. Treatments can produce immediate results, with repeated treatments building upon the restorative effects. Patients may experience some temporary soreness or skin discoloration following treatment.
